We have baby chicks again. They're a rowdy crew. The four we had last year were sweet and quiet, but these girls (and they better be girls, or they're owl bait) are always fighting and scratching and pecking the box. Oh gosh . . . that really sounds more like boy chicks. Argh. I know I've said it before, but I am SO sick of our rooster, Tornado. I posted an ad on Criag's list, hoping to get rid of him to no avail. He is so hard on our hens. I actually heard one of the hens cry out today (a painful sounding cry) so I'm thinking of putting him in the soup. Well, I'M not the one, but maybe I can talk Andrew into some blood and guts action. The girls are (finally) over him, too. Its exhausting being terrified of someone in your back yard. He pecked Cecilia's finger pretty good the other day when she got too close to the run. Il Bastard.
The girls are in a great space right now. They're FULL, FULL, FULL of springtime energy. They've been getting the giggles a lot lately and its pretty funny. I left them in the bathtub tonight so that I could dress Julian only to find (and what else did I expect) that they had taken off their shower caps and turned them into "water balloons." You can imagine the explosive watery potential here. It was pretty funny. I have to hand it to them, they always know how to have a good time. We had a windy day and flew kites, we have been having a grand time turning out backyard into a "farm," complete with a playhouse cum barn and straw all over the place. They built a corral with some string and bungee cords for their "animals," (who are primarily of the stuffed variety.
Julian is in that adorable stage, but MUST be held ALL DAY LONG. Makes for a long day come Friday, but other than that, I don't mind. He's easy and happy and smiles and laughs easily. He's ticklish like his dad.
Not much is new, but everything is new. We planted some seeds, made a tree/grass display for the Root Children to come and visit us (which they did) made some wool eggs as well as blew out and painted some real eggs. I'm excited to have more chickens so we can have more eggs. I'm pretty sure we have ALL Aracanas and Aracana mixes. In hindsight, I wish we had gotten Plymouth Barred Rocks, but they didn't have any when we went to Murdoch's so we just made do with what they had. We did get one Black Star, which we love. We're planning on keeping most of them up at Granny's and keeping a few to add to our flock. We really need to get rid of this rooster. Anyone in the market??
